John J. Sastry, Esq., CFP® – Veterans Attorney & Advocate | Missouri & Illinois

U.S. Army Airborne Veteran providing pro bono legal guidance, financial expertise, and volunteer advocacy for veterans and military families.

John J. Sastry is an attorney and Certified Financial Planner® voluntarily serving veterans and military families in Missouri and Illinois. As a U.S. Army Airborne veteran, John is dedicated to helping those who have served navigate legal, financial, and advocacy challenges.
Across the nation, veterans face complex and often invisible struggles—ranging from financial instability and housing insecurity to substance use and mental health challenges. In 2023 alone, approximately 6,398 veterans died by suicide, underscoring the urgency of accessible, trusted support and advocacy.
At the same time, more than 32,000 veterans experienced homelessness on a single night in 2024, reflecting ongoing barriers to stability for those who served.
Research also shows that veterans with histories of homelessness face dramatically higher risks, with suicide rates over 140% higher than housed veterans, highlighting the deep connection between housing, mental health, and long-term wellbeing. [military.com] [nchv.org] [stripes.com]
These challenges are often compounded by substance use disorders, chronic pain, and the difficulty of transitioning from military to civilian life—issues that frequently require coordinated legal, financial, and community support.
John actively volunteers with multiple veterans’ organizations and is the Founder and Chairman of the Missouri National Guard Hall of Fame, now part of the Mid America Veterans Museum. Through this work, he remains committed to ensuring that veterans and their families are not left navigating these challenges alone.
